Consistent stallion Masterclass (The Minstrel - Monroe by Sir Ivor) has been enjoying a terrific run of late and on Thursday at Ballarat was represented by the exciting up-and-comer Classy Century.
Sent out a short priced favourite in a 1100m Class 4, the Grant Dalziel trained four-year-old was always travelling well for Brian Park and she kicked strongly over the final stages - outclassing her rivals by a soft two lengths.
"She hit the line really well," Park enthused. "Every time she goes around she gets better and better."
In career best form, Classy Century is set for a step up to metropolitan class - ready to enhance on her already fine record of three wins and six placings from 14 starts.
Typical of the Masterclass breed - tough and honest, Classy Century is one of her sire's 163 winners from 264 runners.
That gives Masterclass an excellent 62% winners-to-runners strike rate and he is a stallion who can upgrade his mares, seven of his progeny being stakes winners.
Few Victorian based stallions - and few anywhere standing for under $4000 - have sired three individual Group One winners as has Masterclass - Alf, Idol and Master Belt.
An outstanding two-year-old, Alf won the New Zealand Magic Millions before heading to Australia where he was beaten just a nose by Laurie's Lottery in the Todman Trial-Gr.2.
Second up he lead all the way in the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes-Gr.1 and he then headed to Hong Kong where he raced in the best of company - winning
and twice finishing third in Group races.
Idol too showed his class in Hong Kong. After proving himself amongst the best of New Zealand's three-year-olds he was able to win the Hong Kong Gold Cup-Gr.1 defeating Horse of the YEAR Fairy King Prawn and then also took out the Queen Mother's Cup-Gr.2.
Master Belt also headed overseas. After his victory in the NZ 2000 Guineas-Gr.1 he campaigned in America - winning the Morvich Handicap-Gr.3 at Santa Anita.
The exceptionally fast Show No Emotion is another fine representative of the Masterclass breed - as are the recent winners Head Of The House, Sharp Steal, Captain Monroe, Moon Class, Master Girl, Quantum Classic, Derry Lad and Budding Prodigy.
Sons and daughters Masterclass have won 12 races since the start of April and he now boasts progeny earnings in excess of $12.1 million. Such is the ability of his runners that his money earners average just short of
$80,000 in stakes each!
Which makes his service fee of $3850 (including gst) outstanding value for owner/breeders.
