Citat från en rysk hästsida, HH
“Food supplements for normal horses must be clearly distinguished from supplements for sport horses. Manufacturers provide very vague, at times misleading, information about their product, sometimes being unaware that it is prohibited from using.
To give a specific example, I will consider the experience of a famous German rider, Peter Baumann.
In summer 2007, during the competition in the Netherlands, near the town of Ermelo, Peter Baumann was incapacitated for starting for five months and fined 2,000 euros after the doping control revealed an increased level of testosterone hormone in the horse’s blood.
To his utter surprise, the analysis of the ‘Dopingfrei!’-labeled food supplement he used (manufacturing company: Lexa) showed that the manufacturer added gamma-oryzanol — a biologically active substance prohibited by the International Federation of Equestrian Sports (FEI).
Gamma-oryzanol is a powerful biological stimulator of organism’s hormonal activity. It increases the production of testosterone, which, in turn, leads to fat burning and stimulates muscle growth.
According to the ‘Equine Prohibited List’, gamma-oryzanol may not be used for horses under FEI’s jurisdiction. In other words, it is forbidden to use products or food supplements with Gamma-oryzanol substance for horses under training or taking part in a competition. Lexa company did not provide any information about the ban to use its gamma-oryzanol-based product for sport horses. The result is that the sportsman missed the largest part of 2007 sport season”
